Queen’s Transplant Center requires that you have a caregiver for post-transplant care. This means someone, usually a family member or friend, who is willing to be with you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for a period of one (1) month after transplant in order to provide care for you. This person will need to be with you to learn about taking care of your organ, what foods you are allowed to eat, what medications you will take and when to call for help.
If you do not have a family member or friend who is able to take care of you, you will have to hire help. Insurance does not cover caregivers. Please contact a transplant social worker if you are unable to find someone to help and need to hire someone.
